Best Rabbit Toys to Buy in 2020 (and Beyond!)

The first thing that comes to mind when you think of the best bunny toys of 2020 is how futuristic that sounds! I’m here to tell you the hard and funny truth, in the #1 spot, the best bunny toy of all time, is the most basic of things, in fact, it’s the least futuristic product ever created! You guessed it! The cardboard box!

We all know it, no matter what we buy, nothing pleases our little overlords more than destroying an Amazon box.

We’ll revisit the good ‘ole cardboard box, probably many times in future posts. We’ll talk about safety and about all the different things you can do with them (and trust us, there’s a lot!). This post, however, is dedicated to the best bunny toys that come in the Amazon boxes!

About Bunny Toys

Before we begin, there’s something that should be said: Every single bunny has its own individual personality.

It’s important to say that because just like people, some bunnies might be interested in some toys, and others will just sniff them and walk away in a huff as if saying ‘Hoomin? You expect, me, the bunny, to play with this? Oh no. No, no, no… this does not please me’.

In this post, we highlight the toys which most bunnies love the most. These toys are almost universally liked, but again, we can’t guarantee that your little fluff won’t just ignore them and go back to the rug or cardboard box!

Also, this is quite normal, almost all bunny parents go through a ‘trial and error’ phase, so don’t feel bad if your bunny doesn’t take to every toy you get for them, it’s not your fault, nor is your bunny weird; just like people, each bunny has different tastes, loves, passions, and hobbies, and getting to know your little fuzzy commandant is part of the experience!

Our Favorite Rabbit Toys in 2020

This isn’t in order of best to worst, these are all great toys, we just wanted to number them for convenience…

Play Tunnels

Bunnies LOVE tunnels! It’s in their DNA! As well all know, our little onesie-wearing friends are prey animals, and by nature, they like to hide. Tunnels serve many purposes, one of which is to provide a safe place to collect their thoughts. When things get a little overwhelming, or when they need a moment, these tunnels provide a convenient place to hang out.

But more than that, they’re also perfect for a game called ‘let’s see how fast I can run through this!’

A tunnel is a great addition to your home, and your bunny will love it!

They come in many shapes and sizes and can be used alone or connected together. When it comes to these collapsible tunnels, you really can’t go wrong. Look for good quality materials and steel springs.

‘Find a Treat’ Games

Boy, oh boy, if you have a curious bunny, or a bunny who loves to search for things, these ‘find a treat’ types games will make them happy!

In the wild, rabbits forage for their food, and they are selective eaters.  Toys like these not only provide your little mischief-making bundle of fluff with enjoyment, they also stimulate their minds. In fact, these ‘find a treat’ toys could be considered educational toys!

Most of these types of toys provide various levels of difficulty, so once your little guy gets it, you can increase the challenge! And even once they understand how to solve the puzzle, the simple fact of doing it is what makes it fun for them.

Another benefit of these toys is that it keeps them busy, and a busy and mentally stimulated bunny is a less destructive bunny!

Stackable Cups

These are not found in the pet items sections, but in the baby toys section. Lots of ‘hoomin baby’ toys are also fun for your fur baby, but these are a classic!

Not only will your little royal fluff love taking these out, one by one, and throwing them around, but they are extremely inexpensive.

You can also hide little treats in there, so your bunny can look for them, and throw the cups around, or you can stack them inversely, putting one on top of another, allowing for greater levels of challenge and mayhem!

These are versatile, inexpensive, and fun! A true bunny toy classic!

4. Meadow and Dig

This could be my personal favorite. Rosewood’s Naturals Nibble ‘n’ Dig Meadow. It kept my little guy busy for hours and hours! It’s both treat and activity at the same time!

Your furry bundle of fluff and anxiety will love to dig and forage through this little square of bunny psychology genius!

From the description:

  • A real slice of cultivated meadow full of different herbs, grasses, and edible flowers rooted in loam and carefully dried
  • Set, for convenience, in a hay coated, gnawable parchment tray
  • Allows pets to forage, nibble and dig as they would in nature
  • Contains assorted meadow herbs and grasses with roots and flowers for extra flavor and nutrition

It’s a fantastic idea, and my little guy’s favorite! You might need to put it somewhere where it’s ok for your fuzzy friend to make a mess. I like to take a cardboard box, right side up and opened at the top, cut two bunny doors 10cms up from the ground at each end (bunnies need a minimum of 2 openings to feel safe), and let the little guy go crazy in there!

5 . The Treat Ball

The one in this picture is called the Wheeky Treat Ball and works really well. You need to find something that your bunny likes that fits through the provided hole, like freeze-dried 100% natural bananas for example (but those are high in calories so only one or two little pieces), or you could bake some nutritious treats like our banana bliss bites and break them into small pieces. If you make them yourself, you have more control over the size, and if you shape them right (little balls the diameter of the opening), it’ll take more skill and time to get them out!]

Once you find what to put in there, it’s just the most adorable thing to watch! Your rabbit will push the ball around with his nose until a treat comes out, then he’ll devour the treat, and keep pushing the ball until another one falls out! It’s a great way to keep your little friend entertained, engaged, and working for his treats!
